Maureen McCarthy, FNP

Maureen McCarthy, FNPMaureen McCarthy has twenty-five years’ experience in emergency nursing and as a family nurse practitioner. She has been with FMA in our Manchester office since 1997. Her special area of interest is family and community health.

After training as a registered nurse and receiving an associate degree in general science at Quincy City Hospital/Quincy Junior College, Maureen went on to receive her bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Massachusetts Boston and her master of science in family and community health from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Maureen served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves from 1983 to 1999 and then transferred to the Massachusetts Air National Guard; she currently serves as Medical Group Commander at Otis Air National Guard Base, Cape Cod, a position that requires active involvement with Massachusetts homeland security mission.  McCarthy served in Baghdad for six months in 2009, the first nurse-commander and the first woman to be placed in charge of the 447th Expeditionary Medical Support Squadron in Baghdad.

Maureen is certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She is licensed as a registered nurse in Massachusetts, and is certified by Drug Enforcement Agency/Department of Public Health for prescriptive privileges. Additional training includes advanced trauma care for nurses, advanced burn life support, Air War College, battlefield nursing, and flight nursing.

Maureen is a member of the Massachusetts Coalition Nurse Practitioner Organization; the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International; the Massachusetts National Guard Association; the National Guard Nurse’s Association; the Reserve Officers Association; and a past member of the Massachusetts Coalition Nurse Practitioners Continuing Education Committee.
