Need help understanding your insurance coverage?
If you have just transitioned to a new insurance company, you probably have a lot of questions. Does your doctor participate? What services will be covered? Do you need referrals? Do you have a deductible?
Most insurance companies offer several different “levels” of plans with different types of coverage and deductibles. Traditionally it hasn’t been easy for patients – or health care providers – to figure out the details. This lack of understanding can be frustrating, and can also cause a variety of problems and misunderstandings.
But technology is now providing an answer. Most insurance companies have developed comprehensive websites. You can register on your company’s site and gain access to the information that applies to only you -your coverage and your deductible. Some even provide a history of your transactions so you know exactly where your account stands.
Register on your plan’s website. Each site will provide security information. Take advantage of the “FAQ” page, or access phone numbers if you need additional help from customer service.
Please notify FMA as soon as your insurance coverage changes. Just download our Change of Insurance form, print it out, fill it out, and bring it, along with your new insurance card, to your next visit. Go to the Forms page and click Change of Insurance to download the form.
